Dear New Directions Family~
As the Principal of New Directions Alternative Education Center for a full year, I want to share with you my observations of our students, staff, and school program.
First, I have noted our entire staff is dedicated to providing a world class education for all students. Our most recent SOL results are evidence of the learning that is occurring at New Directions. With SOL pass rates over 90% in several content areas, our students are thriving in the classroom. Having observed every professional educator, their lessons are content driven, creative, and differentiated to meet and exceed the needs of each student in class.
The Student Services staff not only assists students and families with internal and external transitions, but also provides our teachers with classroom coverage and support when our students are in need of effective or affective counseling. Each school counselor is an educational leader and as such takes on multiple roles to support our school program.
Our support staff meets and greets our students each day in a supportive manner, is respectful and helpful to students and families, and always go the “extra mile” to support our mission. As a team, they are the linchpin that allows our professional educators to excel and serve our students.

Having traveled on the cross county connector several times with students, I have seen firsthand the distance each must travel to get to school.
